International Dispute Over Ukraine: Influence of Trump and Putin Demands Global Intervention

The prospects for a trilateral meeting between President Zelensky, President Trump, and President Putin to address the ongoing war in Ukraine are tentatively hopeful but still uncertain. According to reports, President Trump has initiated calls with both Putin and Zelensky, expressing optimism about arranging such a summit and potential peace deal soon.

However, the Kremlin has not confirmed a direct meeting with Zelensky and remains cautious, stating only that Putin and Trump discussed "raising the level of Russian and Ukrainian representation" in negotiations. Putin has historically resisted a three-way summit, which remains a significant hurdle.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has ruled out decisions on Ukraine at the planned USA-Russia summit. For over three years, Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion with Western support. Trump and Putin have expressed a desire to negotiate an end to the conflict, which has been ongoing for nearly three and a half years and is the subject of the anticipated trilateral meeting.

Zelensky and European leaders are supportive of a trilateral summit and ceasefire efforts. Trump has hinted at U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine, an important factor for peace talks, without elaborating on the details. No formal date, location, or detailed agenda for the meetings have been announced.

While the initiative is underway and there is cautious optimism, the realization of a trilateral summit depends mainly on Putin’s willingness to participate, which remains unresolved at this time. Zelensky expressed confidence that there will be a trilateral meeting between Trump, Putin, and him in the future. He told the news agency RBK-Ukraine in Kyiv that "they can't decide anything about Ukraine without us."

Zelensky also expressed hope that US President Donald Trump is aware of this. Trump has stated that he wants to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine as soon as possible. The meeting between Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in the US state of Alaska on Friday is "undoubtedly important for their bilateral relations."

However, European allies of Ukraine and the leadership in Kyiv fear that Putin and Trump could make decisions over Ukraine, a country attacked by Russia. Trump has said that he would not sign any agreement on the Ukraine war with Putin, as it is not his responsibility.

In conclusion, the trilateral meeting, as suggested by Zelensky, involves Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump, and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. While the prospects are hopeful, the success of the meeting and the end of the war in Eastern Europe largely depend on Putin's willingness to participate and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
