International discussion intensifies regarding Gaza control following Israel's proposed full military conquest, facing global disapproval

In a developing crisis, Israel's decision to take complete control of Gaza City has been met with strong international opposition. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) have called for an immediate halt to this plan, emphasising the need to adhere to international law and protect civilians.

The UN Security Council is holding emergency talks today, initiated by the UK, in response to the escalating conflict. The situation in Gaza poses a significant risk of causing severe civilian harm, forced displacement, and potential war crimes.

Key international voices, including the United Nations and the ICJ, demand a lasting ceasefire and humanitarian aid access. The families of the remaining hostages in Gaza, including Matan Zangauker, have expressed anger towards Israel's decision, calling it a "death sentence" for them. It is believed that only 20 out of the 50 hostages taken by Hamas fighters are still alive.

Israel Defence Forces chief Eyal Zamir has warned against the proposal, stating that the hostages' lives will be in danger if the operation proceeds. US special envoy Steve Witkoff is currently meeting Qatar's prime minister to discuss a new proposal to end the war.

Egypt and Qatar are preparing a new ceasefire framework that includes the unconditional release of all remaining hostages. More than 20 countries, including Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, have called Israel's decision a 'dangerous and unacceptable escalation'. Nine countries, including Germany, Britain, France, and Canada, strongly reject Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision for a large-scale military operation in Gaza.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has accused UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron of making it harder to achieve a ceasefire by their intention to recognise a Palestinian state. In the past 24 hours, 11 Palestinians seeking aid were shot dead in Gaza, and 11 adults died of malnutrition-related causes.

As the international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, the focus remains on the protection of civilians and the unconditional release of hostages. The situation in Gaza is a stark reminder of the urgent need for diplomacy and adherence to international law in resolving conflicts.
