India Condemns Attack on Qatar at UN, Urges Peaceful Resolution

India has unequivocally condemned the attack on Qatar at the United Nations Human Rights Council, expressing concern over the Israeli bombing of Doha on September 9. India's Permanent Representative at the UNHRC, Arindam Bagchi, stated that the attack violates Qatar's sovereignty.

The attack, which targeted Hamas's main political leader, Khaled Meshal, and the Hamas negotiating delegation, is a concern for India due to its potential impact on regional security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi previously called Qatar's ruler, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, to express India's condemnation of the attack.

Following the attack, Qatar hosted an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on September 15, attended by representatives of the 57 OIC member states and chiefs of state. The leaders of the summit valued Qatar's role in regional mediation efforts and considered the attack on Qatari territory a serious escalation and a desperate Israeli attempt to undermine Qatar's diplomatic efforts for peace.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) reiterated its support for Qatar's role in regional mediation efforts and condemned the attack on Qatari territory as a serious escalation. Youssef Al-Dobeay, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs of the OIC, made the statement about the attack on Qatar. The OIC also considered the attack as an attempt to interfere with its efforts to halt the war in Gaza.

India urges a peaceful resolution to the issues affecting Qatar and supports resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy to avoid escalation. The attack on Doha is a reminder of the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States in international affairs, a principle that the OIC emphasized during the summit.

The emergency Arab-Islamic summit was sponsored by Qatar, and the OIC, after the conference, stated that the attack on Qatar was an attempt to interfere with its efforts to halt the war in Gaza. India defends Qatar's sovereignty at the U.N. Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva, but did not name Israel in its statement, reflecting a broader international trend of avoiding direct criticism of the country. However, the implication of the attack is clear, and the international community continues to call for peace and diplomacy in the region.
