International collaboration on providing humanitarian aid: UAE and Jordan, joined by 4 other nations, orchestrate an aerial delivery mission for Gaza.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan have taken the lead in a significant humanitarian aid initiative, Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, aimed at delivering critical medical and relief supplies to the Gaza Strip. This operation, launched in December 2023, has provided over 1,200 tonnes of medical materials, supporting Gaza’s healthcare, including an Emirati field hospital inside Gaza and a floating hospital in Egypt [1].
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, recently had a discussion with Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The conversation did not provide any new information about the ongoing conflict or crisis in the Gaza Strip [6].
The relief aid, part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, was dropped into Gaza on August 1. The aid, led by the UAE and Jordan, also involved participation from France, Germany, and Italy [2]. No specific details about the food and relief supplies being delivered to the most affected areas in the Gaza Strip were provided [3].
The aid was delivered to Gaza via land, air, and sea, as mentioned in another report [7]. Seven aircraft from France, Germany, Italy, and Spain also participated in the operation [8]. The UAE's foreign minister praised the humanitarian efforts undertaken by Jordan to support the Palestinian people in Gaza [9].
The UAE has been one of the leading countries supporting the Palestinian people, through both direct relief efforts and continuous political and diplomatic action. The UAE's humanitarian aid to Gaza is reported to make up 44% of the total global aid delivered to the region [10].
The operation remains the 59th humanitarian operation in the region. The relief aid aims to deliver food and relief supplies to the most affected areas in the Gaza Strip. The UAE and Jordanian foreign ministers have also discussed how to enhance coordination in relief efforts during a phone call [4].
