International Boxing Day Celebrated with a Professional Fight in Yakutsk

In the heart of Russia, the city of Yakutsk played host to a significant boxing event on August 27. The professional bout, organised by the Yakutsk City Administration, the Boxing Federation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and the promotional company "SakhaProfBox", marked the celebration of International Boxing Day.

The event, although not a widely recognised annual tradition, saw the participation of various individuals involved in boxing, such as coaches, referees, and athletes. The boxing match was held on Ordzhonikidze Square, a bustling area in Yakutsk.

The main event of the evening was a contest between Nikolai Makarov, a candidate for master of sports in boxing from Churapchinsky District, and Ayhaal Vasilyev, a boxing coach from Yakutsk. The match was closely contested, but it was Makarov who emerged victorious, declared the winner by points.

The victory earned Makarov a coveted cup, along with other prizes and certificates. The event also saw speeches from key figures such as Georgy Balakshin, Chairman of the Permanent Committee of the State Assembly (Il Tumen) of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) on Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports, and First Deputy Chairman of the Boxing Federation of RS (Y). Balakshin called for support for athletes and the development of boxing in the region.

Petr Alekseev, Chairman of the Boxing Federation of RS (Y), emphasised the development of the sport in Yakutsk. Evgenii Grigoryev, the Mayor of Yakutsk, was also present at the event and delivered a speech. Grigoryev expressed his support for the event and the development of sports in the city.

Nikolai Dyachkovsky, the director of "SakhaProfBox", spoke about the company's goal to promote local boxing talent. The company, being the only one of its kind in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Far East, is committed to nurturing and showcasing the skills of local boxers.

Despite the lack of a documented or widely recognised International Boxing Day event specifically held in Yakutsk, this professional boxing match served as a significant step in promoting the sport in the region and showcasing the talent of its local boxers.

The main event of the evening was a boxing match between Nikolai Makarov and Ayhaal Vasilyev, both involved in the sport. Nikolai Makarov emerged victorious in the contest, marking a significant step in the promotion of boxing in Yakutsk.
