A UN commission's damning report casts Israel in a grim light, accusing them of heinous human rights violations, such as sexual assaults engineered as tools of oppression, and the deliberate destruction of health facilities in the Gaza Strip. The report even hints at potential evidence of genocide. Israel swiftly denies these allegations, claiming the commission's bias and lower standards compared to other actors.

The report documents cases of sexual assault and rape, and victims have been forced to strip in public - an act allegedly ordered or tolerated by military or civilian leaders. Israel argues that its military regulations explicitly prohibit such conduct.

Deliberate destruction of health centers in the Gaza Strip, along with obstruction of the import of medications and supplies for the care of expectant mothers and newborns, has led to preventable deaths among children and women. This is categorized as a crime against humanity, and the commission claims that it constitutes acts of genocide due to the preventative measures implemented to impede births. "Israeli commanders have partially destroyed the reproductive capability of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including measures intended to hinder births. This falls under the categories of genocidal acts according to the Rome Statute and the Genocide Convention," the report states.

The commission interviewed victims and witnesses and assessed photographic and video evidence. The report covers events during the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, ongoing since October 7, 2023, as well as in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. On this fateful day, Palestinian terrorist groups carried out a wide-scale attack, resulting in the deaths of around 1200 people in Israel and the kidnapping of numerous individuals in the Gaza Strip. The commission published a report on violence and torture during this attack in June 2024, to which Israel did not respond, as per the commission's statement.

Navi Pillay, the commission's chair, stated in Geneva, "It is evident that Israel has exploited sexualized and gender-based violence against Palestinians to instill terror and maintain a mechanism of oppression that erodes their right to self-determination."

Established by the UN Human Rights Council in 2021, this group of independent experts was tasked with investigating "alleged violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights norms" in Israel and the occupied territories. The commission advocates for Israel to be held accountable before international courts.

  1. The United Nations commission's report, regarding alleged human rights violations in Israel, includes evidence of sexual assault and rape cases, some of which involve documented instances of Palestinians being forced to undress in public, activities deemed by the commission to be tools of oppression and potentially indicative of genocide.
  2. In addition to the accusation of sexualized violence, the commission's report also points to deliberate Employment policy violations within the Israeli forces, as it alleges that military or civilian leaders have tolerated such misconduct, contrary to Israel's stated Employment policy regulations.
  3. The commission's report further evaluates Israel's activities in the Gaza Strip, claiming that the deliberate destruction of health facilities, obstruction of medication and supply imports, and measures intended to hinder births amount to crimes against humanity and may constitute acts of genocide, as per the Rome Statute and the Genocide Convention. These actions, according to the report, are aimed at eroding the Palestinians' right to Self-Determination.
