A 44-year-old police officer from Maintal in Hesse has received a suspended prison sentence for leaking confidential information. The officer passed details about police operations to criminals involved in smuggling cannabis from Spain to Germany. The court’s decision was less severe than the prosecution’s original demand.

The officer worked in Maintal and shared sensitive data with individuals linked to illegal drug trafficking. This included specific information about police operations and general tactical procedures. The leaked details were later used to plan shipments of cannabis into Germany.

The court found the officer guilty of breaking official secrecy laws and assisting cannabis smuggling. Prosecutors had pushed for a four-year and three-month prison term. Instead, the judge handed down a two-year suspended sentence. The verdict is not yet legally binding, leaving open the possibility of further appeals or revisions.

The case highlights the risks of internal leaks within law enforcement. The suspended sentence means the officer will avoid immediate imprisonment unless further legal action changes the outcome. No evidence was found linking the officer to a Turkish individual involved in the smuggling operation.
