Internal Analysis Examines Browns Strategy for Addressing Overabundance of Quarterbacks on Roster
The Cleveland Browns are in a pickle at the quarterback position. They've recruited a bunch of guys – Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel.
This QB room is stacked, causing a fair bit of confusion about the depth chart. But NFL expert James Palmer has some ideas about how this could play out.
"Here's the skinny on it – Flacco's the number two, and if no one claims the top spot, he'll be their number one," Palmer said. "Pickett has to outshine the other newbies to make the roster, no doubt about it."
"Shedeur Sanders and Gabriel are both fresh faces, neither having played a single NFL game yet," he continued. "Flacco's been around the block, as has Pickett."
For Cleveland to nab Sanders in the fifth round was a steal. But to be a starter, he's gonna have to work his butt off.
Sanders was the man at Jackson State and Colorado, but this is a whole new ball game. Palmer put it simply:
"He's always been the guy, never had to fight for the job before," he said. "But now he starts from the bottom and needs to claw his way up, A, by earning a roster spot, B, beating Gabriel, C, Pickett, and D, beating out veteran Joe Flacco."
Sanders has some ground to cover after falling to the fifth round in a shocking slide. But if he puts in the hard work, he could prove he's worthy of being the Browns' starter.
