Brandenburg's Interior Minister Defends Solid Budget Plan Amid Tense Financial Circumstances
Minister Lange on Budget: Proposed Allocation is Solid - Interior Minister Lange presents proposed financial plan
Katrin Lange, Brandenburg's Interior Minister (SPD), boldly stands by the 2025 and 2026 budget draft amidst a precarious financial landscape. Recently, she defended this plan in the Interior Committee of the state parliament in Potsdam, describing it as responsible and steady.
In her address, Lange highlighted several key investments, such as the addition of 100 new police positions annually, the acquisition of new helicopters (for which 45 million euros is set aside for 2026), and the purchasing of new boats for the water police (with 14 million euros allocated each for 2025 and 2026).
However, the minister expressed concern over the future reimbursement of municipal expenses relating to explosive ordnance disposal, as these costs have, until now, been covered by the federal government. Brandenburg, Lange insisted, will advocate that the federal government takes on these costs.
Forest fire fighting measures will also see some economizing, including cuts to the state school for fire and disaster protection, according to the interior minister.
With projected expenses of over 1 billion euros for the Interior Department each year, the department aims to maintain robust public safety while navigating financial constraints.
