The sacking of Brandenburg's constitutional protection chief and the commotion surrounding Interior Minister Katrin Lange (SPD) has sparked the need for some behind-the-scenes maneuvers within her party. "I'm hoping these next few days will bring a mountain of clarification and transparency, and hopefully the political turmoil will subside a bit," SPD faction leader Björn Lüttmann shared with the German Press Agency. The Greens in Brandenburg are pushing for Lange's resignation, launching an online campaign against her.

They allege, "Katrin Lange has ... done a disservice to the fight against the AfD." The CDU opposition in the state parliament also questions Lange's reasoning for the constitutional protection chief's dismissal. There's turmoil within the SPD faction too. The SPD faction plans to discuss the matter further with Lange during their next meeting on Tuesday.

The matter is attracting public attention, Lüttmann noted, "But I trust the minister that she had sound reasons for dismissing the constitutional protection chief." Lüttmann emphasized that the SPD minister dismissed Jörg Müller due to being informed too late about an upgrade in classification of the AfD as a secure right-wing extremist endeavor. Some sources suggest that Lange was aware of the reassessment earlier but chose to act after creating a controversial change that gave her more control over such decisions. Lange contests these allegations, stating that she was informed too late about the upgraded classification.

The Green party leader in Rostock accused Lange of causing severe damage: "She must resign or be dismissed by Minister President Woidke." Lange responds by stating that she has no issue with the constitutional protection's expert assessment of the AfD, but rather the way they communicate and collaborate. Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke remains loyal to his deputy and interior minister, Lange, praising her effective work. He remains confident that his stance against right-wing extremism and the AfD will not be compromised.

The governing coalition has emphasized its firm stance against right-wing extremism. A successor for the head of the domestic intelligence agency is expected to be named in July. Minister Lange aims to propose a replacement for Muller in July: "It's crucial to promptly and efficiently fill this position to maintain trust in the effectiveness of the domestic intelligence agency." - Björn Lüttmann, SPD parliamentary group leader.
