Inter names Chivu as their new manager
Inter Milan Appoints Cristian Chivu as New Head Coach
After a tumultuous season that ended with a Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan has appointed Cristian Chivu as their new head coach. Chivu, who previously served as a youth coach for the club, takes over from Simone Inzaghi following his departure.
Chivu's senior-level coaching career is very recent and limited in experience. He has coached only 13 senior matches, all at Parma during the 2024-2025 season, before being appointed as the head coach of Inter Milan in June 2025.
At Parma, Chivu ensured the club's top-flight safety by leading them out of the relegation zone. During his tenure, he lost just three out of 13 games, resulting in a 23.1% win rate. In terms of points, he averaged 1.2 points per game.
Chivu's managerial career at Parma spanned just three months. Before his senior coaching debut, he spent six years working in the Inter Milan youth sector, which helped him develop his coaching philosophy focused on empathy, communication, and understanding players as individuals.
Chivu's contract with Inter is for two years, extending until June 2027. His appointment at Inter represents a significant career step, with expectations to follow in the footsteps of successful Serie A coaches who won titles early in their top-level managerial careers, such as Antonio Conte and Max Allegri.
Despite the challenges related to the transition, including a difficult dressing room atmosphere and an early exit from the Club World Cup, Chivu is reportedly starting to assert his authority and aiming to bring a strong work ethic and a collaborative atmosphere to the squad.
| Club | Role | Timeframe | Matches Coached | Notes | |--------------|----------------|----------------|-----------------|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Parma | Head Coach | 2024-2025 season | 13 senior matches | Chivu's only senior head coaching experience before Inter Milan | | Inter Milan | Head Coach | Since June 2025 | Ongoing | First official season; aiming for Serie A success; previously youth coach for Inter |
Simone Inzaghi, on the other hand, has joined Al-Hilal, leaving Inter after their disappointing Champions League final defeat. Cristian Chivu's departure from Parma was announced on Monday.
After his brief yet successful stint at Parma, Cristian Chivu joins Inter Milan as the new head coach, keen not only to replicate his performance in European leagues but also to emulate the success of renowned Serie A coaches such as Antonio Conte and Max Allegri. The Milanese club, still recovering from a challenging Champions League final defeat, aims to strengthen their squad under Chivu's guidance, focusing on a collaborative atmosphere and strong work ethic.
