Bavaria, Germany, is currently bracing itself for a series of severe thunderstorms, with the German Weather Service (DWD) issuing multiple warnings and alerts across the region. The storms, part of a larger severe weather event affecting southern Germany, are being driven by a low-pressure system known as Tief Tim.

As of Wednesday, July 3, 2025, the DWD has warned of potential dangers from the thunderstorms, including lightning strikes, falling branches, flying objects, rapid flooding, aquaplaning, landslides, and hail. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities and seek shelter, and to avoid bodies of water due to the risk of flooding and aquaplaning.

The alarm level in Bavaria has been raised to red, with a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for the counties of Oberallgäu and Unterallgäu, and the city of Kempten until 2:30 PM. In addition, warnings for heavy thunderstorms are in effect for a total of eight districts in the Bavarian Alps until 4 pm, including Landsberg am Lech, Kaufbeuren, Weilheim-Schongau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Miesbach, Rosenheim, Traunstein, and Berchtesgadener Land.

Heavy thunderstorms are currently affecting the far southeast and the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad-Tölz, and Wolfratshausen. A thunderstorm warning (marked yellow) is in effect for Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, and Miesbach. In the second half of the day in southern Bavaria, locally even severe weather developments due to heavy rain up to 40 l/qm and hail up to 2 cm, as well as storm gusts up to 80 km/h are expected.

In addition to the earlier warnings, a warning for strong thunderstorms (marked orange on the warning map) is in effect for the counties of Erding, Freising, and Landshut. Isolated thunderstorms with heavy rain are still possible at night. Today, thunderstorms with heavy rain of up to 20 liters per square meter are moving from west to east in Bavaria. Stormy gusts and small hail are also possible.

As of the latest information, the severe weather conditions were forecasted to impact these areas on Wednesday, July 3, 2025. There is no specific end date mentioned for these warnings, but the DWD typically updates forecasts regularly. Residents should remain vigilant and check local weather updates for the latest information.

The heatwave that has been affecting Bavaria and other parts of Germany is starting to subside, with temperatures expected to drop beginning on Thursday, July 4, 2025. However, the focus remains on the immediate threat of severe thunderstorms throughout the region.
