Intensifying Pressure on Israel Regarding the Humanitarian Distress in Gaza
The ongoing military conflict in Gaza has sparked intense international pressure on Israel, with accusations of war crimes and breaches of the Geneva Conventions mounting. The humanitarian situation in the region is dire, characterized by mass displacement, widespread famine and malnutrition, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure [1][3][4].
At the heart of the controversy is the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), established in May 2025 to replace UN agencies like UNRWA in distributing aid. However, GHF sites have become deadly targets, causing further civilian casualties, with at least 859 deaths near GHF sites alone. UN experts have condemned the GHF as a facade that provides a humanitarian "camouflage" for Israel, worsening civilian suffering, and have called for its immediate dismantling [1].
The Israeli military has reported that armed Palestinians used a forged emblem of the aid organization World Central Kitchen (WCK), leading to airstrikes that resulted in the deaths of five individuals [5]. International organizations, however, do not see the GHF as suitable for improving the situation in Gaza [6].
The GHF began operations in Gaza after a nearly three-month Israeli blockade of aid deliveries. The Israeli government introduced the GHF distribution mechanism to bypass UN aid organizations and other initiatives [7].
Meanwhile, independent international aid organizations like the International Rescue Committee continue to call for adherence to international law, protection of civilians, and a ceasefire to allow safe delivery of aid [2].
Qatar and Egypt are currently working towards resuming indirect talks between Israel and Hamas over a ceasefire and hostage release. Hamas has demanded a complete end to the nearly two-year war and a withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza in return for the release of all hostages still in the Gaza Strip [8].
The specter of famine is unfolding in Gaza, according to a joint statement. The needs listed include food, shelter, fuel, clean water, medicine, and protection for civilians and aid workers [9]. The needs are immense, with the needs of over 2 million people in Gaza yet to be met [10].
The US State Department has approved $30 million for the GHF, with more than half already disbursed [11]. However, the US President Donald Trump's intentions to contribute to improving the situation in Gaza through the GHF's efforts have been met with criticism and skepticism [12].
Amidst the crisis, the Israeli government is pursuing a new war plan, which includes the takeover of the city of Gaza and the dismantling of Hamas in the central refugee camps, according to Prime Minister Netanyahu [13]. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied any policy of starvation or famine in Gaza [14].
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over allegations of Israeli security forces subjecting Palestinian detainees to sexual violence [15]. The total number of journalists killed in the attack is six, according to Reporters Without Borders [16].
This complex situation highlights the urgent need for unfettered humanitarian access and protection of civilians amid escalating conflict and political controversy over aid delivery mechanisms. The international community continues to call for a swift resolution to the crisis, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all civilians in Gaza.

- The controversy surrounding the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) extends to the realm of general news and politics, as factors including the distribution of aid, the protection of civilians, and allegations of war crimes remain contentious issues.
- Moreover, GHF operations also appear in reports on crime and justice, as UN experts have accused the organization of providing a disguise for Israel's actions, exacerbating the plight of civilians in the Middle East conflict.
