Intensifies Actions Against Hamas: Israel to Deploy 'Unmatched Power' in Gaza City

The Israeli military issued a warning on September 19, vowing to use 'unprecedented force' in Gaza City. This announcement, made by Avichay Adraee, a leading army Arabic-language spokesman, comes as part of the ongoing operations against Hamas and other terrorist organisations.

The operations, which are backed by the United States, began on September 16, almost two years after the October 7 Hamas-led pogrom. The Israeli Defense Forces have been operating with unprecedented force, a move aimed at curbing the influence of these organisations in the region.

However, the use of such force has not been without controversy. The United Nations has published a probe accusing Israel of committing 'genocide' in Gaza. Many Arab and Islamic states have called for Israel's punishment, while Spain's government has accused Israel of war crimes or even genocide.

Israel, on the other hand, has rejected these findings, describing them as 'distorted and false.' The Israeli military closed a temporary evacuation route in Gaza City on September 19, 48 hours after it opened. Displaced Palestinians in Gaza City have described relentless shelling and the loss of homes.

Key figures supporting Israel's military actions in Gaza include Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who endorses expanding operations to capture Gaza City, and security experts like Yossi Kuperwasser and Kobi Michael, who recognize Hamas's ongoing control in parts of Gaza. Opponents within Israel include Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir and the military leadership, who warn that occupying Gaza risks heavy Israeli casualties and responsibility for millions of Palestinians.

Some hostages' families urge ending the war and negotiating their release over continued military assaults. The closure of Salah al-Din Road for southbound travel, as per the announcement by Avichay Adraee, is another development in this complex situation.

It's important to note that many displaced Palestinians lack the means to evacuate from Gaza City, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. The question of whether Israel's actions are justified as self-defense or constitute genocide remains a contentious issue, with both sides presenting their arguments. This conflict continues to unfold, with its impact felt deeply by the people of Gaza and beyond.
