Intensified Searches Across Regions for Popular Front of India: 10 Key Insights
Breaking News: Nationwide Crackdown on Political Islamic Group PFI
In a series of coordinated raids across India, over 106 members of the Political Islamic Front (PFI) were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on September 22, marking the agency's largest-ever raids spread across 15 states.
The raids were not limited to the federal states, as the Delhi Police's special cell conducted searches in several locations, including Rohini, Nizamuddin, Jamia, Shaheen Bagh, and central Delhi. In Karnataka, 40 PFI members were taken into custody during a morning raid, while in Assam, at least 25 PFI leaders were arrested across 5 central and lower Assam districts. Raids were reported in Udalguri and Karimganj, Assam, as well as Aurangabad and Solapur, Maharashtra.
The arrests followed accusations that the PFI is promoting extremist Islam and recruiting for terrorist activities. In Karnataka, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra stated that the PFI will be banned in the state, and the process has already begun. The organization came under the scanner of central agencies after its members sliced off the hand of a college professor in Kerala for supposedly hurting religious sentiments.
In addition to the arrests, the PFI has been charged with terror funding, offering weapons training to Muslim youth, and radicalizing them to join terrorist organizations. Four PFI protestors were arrested in Mumbra, Maharashtra, for allegedly engaging in illegal activities, promoting enmity among communities, and waging war against the nation.
The arrested PFI leaders were picked up from various locations across Karnataka, including Bagalkote, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Ramanagara, Mangaluru, Koppal, Bellari, Kolar, Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Vijayapura. Houses of PFI leaders were also raided in these districts.
Formed in 2006, the PFI claims to work for the empowerment of marginalized areas in India and support the rights of Dalits, Muslims, and tribals. However, the recent raids and arrests have raised concerns about the group's true intentions and activities.
Investigative companies are conducting procedures in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh. The arrested PFI leaders are currently in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
