Heavy Rains and Flood Risks Hit 24 Provinces Across Thailand

Thailand is currently grappling with heavy rains and flood risks due to the strengthening southwest monsoon. A flood advisory has been issued for 24 provinces across the North, Northeast, Central, and South regions, with residents urged to remain vigilant and stay updated via official channels.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon is dominating the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, causing heavy rains, particularly in the North, Central, and parts of the South. Heavy to very heavy isolated rains with strong winds are forecast, with flash floods and overflows expected, especially near foothills and low-lying areas.

The flood risks are expected to continue through the monsoon season and beyond, with forecasts indicating above-average rainfall for the rest of 2025 due to La Niña conditions. This situation is likely to increase flood impacts throughout most of Thailand, especially in vulnerable areas near dams, rivers, and low-lying floodplains.

In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, wave heights have increased to 2–3 meters, rising above 3 meters during thundershowers, posing hazards to marine activities. Mariners and small boats have been advised to exercise caution and remain ashore during storms.

Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather updates, follow government safety instructions, and use the "THAI DISASTER ALERT" app and official DDPM communication channels for real-time information and emergency assistance.

Thundershowers are scattered across Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Lampang, Phichit, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun (North); Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani (Northeast); Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram (Central); Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat (East); Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat (South, east coast); Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, and Trang (South, west coast); Bangkok metropolitan area.

In the South, waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to reach about 1 metre high. In the Gulf, waves are expected to be below 1 metre, but can increase during thundershowers. Residents in these areas are advised to exercise caution due to the risk of heavy rainfall and potential flash floods and water accumulation, particularly near foothills, waterways, and low-lying areas.

All ships should proceed with caution and avoid thundershowers. Temperatures across Thailand vary, with minimum temperatures ranging from 23°C to 27°C and maximum temperatures ranging from 31°C to 37°C, depending on the region.

Stay safe and stay informed during this time of heavy rains and flood risks in Thailand.
