Intensified cold weather expected in Latvia next week
Brace yourselves, Latvia! The weather forecast for the coming week is painting a chilly picture, with frost and snow expected to dominate the landscape.
Starting from the first half of next week, snow is predicted to fall more frequently and with greater intensity on the coast. The slow winds and low-moving cloud areas will contribute to increased temperature contrasts, making the cold feel even more biting.
However, there's a silver lining. The sun will often shine during the day, providing a brief respite from the cold. The maximum temperature will hover between -9 C to -4 C in most of the country, and -3 C to zero in Kurzeme.
Local snow clouds are expected to form over the Baltic Sea, potentially affecting coastal regions such as South Kurzeme, Ventspils, Talsi, and Tukums.
As we move into the second half of the week, the cold will begin to ease. Current forecasts suggest that warmer air from western Europe could reach our region after December 8. Initially, this could bring snow or blizzards, but these are expected to later turn into wet snow and thaw.
The first watch of next week will see frost intensify further, with temperatures dropping below -20 degrees Celsius in some eastern Latvian regions. The drop will be particularly noticeable in places where the sky will clear at night and in the mornings.
Unfortunately, the search results do not provide specific forecasts naming which Latvian coastal cities will experience more intense frost and heavy snowfall in the first half of the next week.
On a positive note, no significant snowfall is expected during the weekend. The wind will be slow and change directions during this period.
Minimum temperatures during holiday nights will range from -13 C to -5 C in most of the country, while in Vidzeme and Latgale, they will be as low as -15 C to -20 C.
Stay warm and safe, Latvia! Keep an eye on the weather forecasts for the most up-to-date information.
