Intense weekend downpours may surpass the overall rainfall of the month of May.
Saturday Storm Warning: UK Set for Heavy Downpours and Thunderstorms
Brace yourself, folks! The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for Saturday, predicting thunderstorms in various parts of the United Kingdom.
On Saturday, southern regions of the UK are expected to face a torrential deluge, with up to 30mm of rain pouring down in just three hours. Hail and thunder could make an appearance as well. The total rainfall for the day could reach an astounding 50mm.
It's important to remember that England received only 32.8mm of rain in the entire month of May, which is almost half the average monthly rainfall.
This wet weather is the result of low pressure moving from the north of the country, pulling in frontal systems from the west and south-west. This combination causes the "changeable and wet weather" forecasted for the coming days.
Meteorologist Honor Criswick explains, "The north-westerly wind gradually drags in frontal systems out from the west and south-west, leading to some pretty changeable and wet weather at times."

Interestingly, Thursday is also expected to see heavy showers, potentially accompanied by thunder. The rest of the week is expected to be "changeable," according to the Met Office spokesperson Andrea Bishop.
