Intense Violence and Ongoing Clashes in Gaza
In a developing situation, the Israeli military has launched a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict with the Islamic terrorist organization Hamas. The offensive was initiated following a terror attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which claimed the lives of around 1,200 people in Israel.
Israel's stated aim for the offensive is to dismantle Hamas and secure the release of remaining Israeli hostages. The military has reportedly attacked over 1,200 targets since the start of the ground offensive, according to military spokesman Effie Defrin.
The ground offensive, which began overnight on Tuesday, has resulted in a mass exodus of civilians. More than 450,000 people have fled Gaza, significantly decreasing the population of Gaza City, which previously housed around one million people.
The death toll from the conflict continues to rise, with hospital reports in Gaza stating that 38 people died on Thursday. Palestinian sources report that 48 people have died in Israeli attacks, while medical circles in Gaza have reported a higher death toll. The Israeli army reported that four soldiers were killed by an explosive device in the south of the Gaza Strip.
It is important to note that the figures from both sides of the conflict cannot currently be independently verified.
