Intense thunderstorms and heavy downpours forecasted for the southernmost regions
Heavy rain and severe weather are expected to hit southern Bavaria, particularly the Alps, on Thursday, according to the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach. Meteorologist Tobias Reinartz provided these weather updates.
Initially, there will be isolated heavy thunderstorms on Wednesday in the region. From the evening onwards, localized heavy rain and thunderstorms, especially between southern Baden and Lake Constance, are predicted. The weather system causing these conditions is the warm front of the low-pressure system CHARLY.
On Thursday, southern Bavaria can expect severe amounts of rain, with a risk of local flooding in certain areas. The rest of Germany will experience isolated short showers near the coast.
Friday will see a transition in the weather. The south and southwest will be partly sunny and cloudy, with isolated showers at the Alps. In the rest of Germany, the day will be generally cloudier, but there could also be some clearing or sunny spells. The rain in southern Bavaria will gradually ease off by nightfall on Friday.
Saturday will bring some variations in weather across the country. In the southwest, there will be longer periods of sunshine and it will stay dry. On the other hand, occasional showers and local short thunderstorms are expected, especially in the northeast.
Meteorologists predict that temperatures will likely start to rise again next week, with temperatures from Friday to Sunday expected to be between 17 to 23 degrees. However, there is a potential for localized heavy rain and thunderstorms, particularly in southern Baden and the Lake Constance region.
Despite these weather conditions, the weather in large parts of Germany remains calm. It's advisable for residents in affected areas to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions against potential flooding.
