Germany Braces for Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain following Heat Wave

After a prolonged period of high temperatures, Germany is set to experience a significant change in weather conditions next week. Following the heat wave, the expected weather pattern for the second half of the week in Germany is heavy showers and thunderstorms.

During the heat wave, the southwest of the country will show temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius on Monday, with highs up to 34 degrees Celsius in the shade in the south. On Sunday, the south will reach highs of just over 30 degrees Celsius, while the north won't even reach 25 degrees. In the far north, temperatures are likely to remain largely below the 30-degree mark.

However, the period after the heatwave will not just cool down but bring significant precipitation and storm activity. Thunderstorms are predicted along with the showers, indicating a potentially volatile weather pattern with rain, lightning, and possibly hail. These conditions are similar to those forecast for neighboring Low Countries and parts of Central Europe, including Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland.

The German Weather Service (DWD) expects the next heat wave to peak in the coming week. A cold front will move in on Sunday, replacing the hot air with cooler marine air in many parts of the country. The night into Monday will be significantly cooler, with temperatures in some areas around 10 degrees Celsius.

As the heat wave peaks towards the middle of next week, the risk of local thunderstorms increases from the west. On Tuesday and Wednesday, widespread highs between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius are expected. Elsewhere, the sun is often out, but sometimes a few clouds may join in.

The second half of the week may bring more rain and lower temperatures. In the south, local temperatures could reach up to 36 degrees Celsius. It's cooler along the coast, with highs ranging from 21 to 25 degrees Celsius.

In summary, rather than a simple temperature drop, Germany is expected to face thunderstorms and heavy rain events next week following the heat wave, marking a switch from extreme heat to unsettled weather conditions.

The German Weather Service (DWD) anticipates thunderstorms and heavy rain events next week following the heat wave, signaling a substantial shift from the prolonged period of high temperatures. This change in weather pattern is expected to bring significant precipitation and storm activity, including rain, lightning, and potentially hail.
