A Second Night of Rocket Attacks: Heavy Strikes from Iran Leave Ten Dead in Israel

Intense Strikes by Iran on Israel Leave 10 Dead, Multiple Injuries

Tensions between Israel and Iran continue to escalate, with a second night of rocket attacks leaving ten dead and over 200 injured in Israel. The attacks have targeted both military and civilian areas.

Israel and Iran traded blow for blow early this morning. At least eight people, including several children, were killed in Israel, according to local media reports citing emergency services. In the Israeli city of Bat Yam, an Iranian rocket hit a residential building, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, including two young children aged eight and thirteen. Rescue teams continue to search for about 20 missing people as the building threatens to collapse.

Earlier in the morning, four members of the same family were killed in the northern town of Tamra, according to the latest reports. The Israeli army had earlier announced that people could leave safe spaces in several areas in central and northern Israel. Rescue teams were deployed across the country to attend to areas where projectiles had hit.

Israel Strikes Back in Iran

Israel retaliated overnight, launching air strikes on Iranian targets. The army claimed that the headquarters of a state-run nuclear research organization was amongst the targets in Tehran. Other targets included efforts to build nuclear weapons, which Iran denies, such as the hiding place of the state's nuclear archive.

The news agency Tasnim, considered the mouthpiece of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, reported that a military research facility in the north of Tehran had been hit. The Revolutionary Guard is the elite force of the Islamic Republic. Attacks on the defense ministry's command were also reported in Iran, resulting in parts of an oil depot in the northwest of Tehran catching fire. The situation is currently under control, according to SNN. Witnesses also reported heavy explosions in other parts of the city. Israel's defense minister, Israel Katz, declared on Twitter, "Tehran is burning."

Iran claims that 78 people were killed on the first day of Israel's military operation, with many more added on the second day. One of the deadliest incidents involved a rocket bringing down a 14-story residential building in Tehran.
