Intense storms are heading towards Munich, issuing a warning by the German Weather Service (DWD)
In the heart of Bavaria, the state capital of Munich has been hit by a severe thunderstorm, causing a stir in the city as the temperature took a sudden turn for the worse.
As of 10:50 PM, the storm has calmed down, leaving behind a cooler and somewhat damp weather. However, the German Weather Service (DWD) reports that the storm left its mark, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h (20 m/s, 38 kn, Bft 8). The heavy rainfall was particularly noteworthy, with rainfall amounts between 15 l/m2 and 30 l/m2 per hour.
The DWD also warned of hail with grain sizes up to 2 cm, adding to the storm's intensity. The weather service issued a warning for lightning strikes, falling branches, flying objects, rapid flooding, and widespread aquaplaning.
The thunderstorms have moved eastward, but they originally approached Munich from Augsburg. The DWD is warning of severe thunderstorms in some regions of Bavaria, urging residents and visitors to exercise caution.
In response to the weather conditions, the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) has advised drivers to drive carefully. The MVG is also conducting test drives of special electric mini-buses in Munich, specifically testing new electric mini-bus models from Lohr in September and October 2025.
Despite the temperature, the spirit of the city remains undeterred. Munich, known for its vibrant culture and festive atmosphere, continues to thrive, even amidst the storm.
As always, stay safe and stay informed. Keep an eye on the weather updates from the DWD for further information on the storm's progression and any potential further impacts.
