Intense showers batter Delhi yet again, causing disruption as more than 100 flights in NCR are delayed due to severe windstorms.

Intense rainfall lashes Delhi yet again, leading to over 100 flight displacements in the NCR region due to robust windstorms.

In the midst of Monday night, Delhi NCR was hit by torrential downpours and electrical storms, causing a wave of chaos across the city. These weather conditions disrupted travel patterns and schedules, leaving many scrambling to adjust.

The early arrival of stormy weather in Delhi resulted in heavy rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the city, offering much-needed relief from the sweltering heatwave currently gripping the northern states. However, the powerful storms and strong winds brought their own set of challenges, disrupting flight operations extensively.

Over 20 flights were diverted, while around 100 flights faced delays within the National Capital Region (NCR). The majority of flights departing between 6 am to 10 am on Tuesday were delayed or canceled, according to recent reports. All passengers were advised to monitor their travel itineraries.

Affected flights were diverted to neighboring cities such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Amritsar, Indore, and even Ahmedabad. The disruption in flight operations was due to the intense winds, rain, and electrical storms, making landing particularly difficult.

The heavy rain began early Monday morning, leaving countless travelers stranded at Indira Gandhi International Airport due to delayed or canceled flights. The rain is predicted to continue for several days, according to the meteorological department.

In response to the expected continued rain, IndiGo advised affected passengers on Monday evening, “The skies have decided to pour on #Delhi. Our operations could be affected. For canceled flights, please visit https://bit.ly/36u4Mh9 to opt for Plan B. Please allow sufficient travel time to avoid any hassle. To check flight status, please visit http://bit.ly/2EjJGGT."

As of present, these rainy conditions have significantly cooled down the temperature in the national capital. This much-needed relief from the lingering heatwave in Delhi has come at a cost, however.

The stormy weather is expected to persist for the next couple of days, with the minimum temperature in the NCT region recorded at 23 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning.

It's worth noting that, as of June 28, 2025, flight operations in Delhi NCR have reportedly returned to normal despite the weather conditions. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for further heavy rainfall expected to continue in Delhi until June 29, 2025, accompanied by shifting wind patterns and inclement weather conditions. In response, the Delhi Airport has issued an advisory warning passengers about possible flight delays due to the bad weather, advising them to check with airlines and consider alternative travel modes like the Delhi Metro to reach the airport.

Despite the ongoing weather challenges, Officials have confirmed that flight operations remain normal as of now, with teams working diligently to ensure smooth operations amid the continued bad weather. No reports of significant flight cancellations or disruptions specific to the electrical storms or rainfall have been reported. Local flights continue to operate, albeit with close monitoring of weather conditions and possible Air Traffic Flow Management measures if conditions worsen.

The unforeseen stormy weather in Delhi on Monday caused extensive disruptions in flight operations, leading to over 20 flight diversions and around 100 flight delays within the NCR. These challenging conditions left many travelers stranded at Indira Gandhi International Airport, leading to adjustments in travel itineraries. The heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, while offering relief from the heatwave, have continued for several days, with the weather forecast predicting more rain in the coming days.
