The extreme and severe convective weather events in Miyun and other districts of Beijing were caused by warm and humid air from the edge of a subtropical anticyclone. This weather pattern has resulted in the heavy rainfall that has caused the flooding and subsequent evacuations.
The Xinhua news agency reports that over 80,000 residents have been evacuated due to the rain. The Beijing authorities have advised residents to avoid fast-flowing river sections to ensure their safety.
