Intense rainfall forecast in Belarus - expected rain duration
In the sweltering heat of Belarus, thunderstorms and gusty winds are on the horizon! The Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) has sounded an orange alert for the impending weather chaos. Metals are predicting a torrential downpour, thunderstorms, and aggressive winds that could reach up to 20 m/s in certain regions.
As we bask in the warm embrace of temperatures reaching 31°C in Brest and Gomel, it's time to brace for the storms. Several parts of the country may witness increases in winds, as storm warnings have been issued for Vitebsk, Grodno, Brest, and Minsk regions.
To safeguard ourselves from the chaotic elements, EMERCOM offers these sage recommendations to keep us out of harm's way:
- Stay Inside: When the thunder roars, it's best to hole up indoors. Steer clear of electrical wiring, antennas, turn off any electronics, and dial back on using telephones and appliances during the storm.
- Skip the Trees: If you find yourself in a forest, stay away from tall, isolated trees and seek refuge amid low-growing vegetation. If no shelter is nearby, hit the ground and take cover in a dry ditch or trench, keeping your head low.
- Nix the Water: In wetter weather, avoid any water bodies and fishing, and if you're out on a bike or motorcycle, find a safe haven to wait out the storm.
Remember, these safety tips are crucial during thunderstorms and strong winds. Keep a safe distance from danger zones like billboards, buildings with loose structures, power lines, and open fields. Unplug electrical appliances to steer clear of power surges and electrical fires. Lastly, remember to avoid using corded phones or electronic devices as they can potentially conduct electricity this time around.
Stay weather-ready, Belarus, and be prepared as our meteorologists and EMERCOM keep us one step ahead of the storms!
