Bayern's Transfer Tussle: Eberl's Voices frustration amid Club World Cup Chaos
Intense pressure on FC Bayern's sports board as they confront Kimmich
Hop on the chat, folks! Ready for a juicy update on the transfer frenzy surrounding FC Bayern Munich at the Club World Cup? You betcha!
Max Eberl, Bayern's sports director, can't help but grumble about the relentless transfer market action, especially in Europe, while he's got important squad business to attend to during the Club World Cup in the US. He's got his work cut out for the upcoming season, and he's got a bone to pick with those pesky lists circulating, speculating about players who might be leaving or joining the team.
He's kept quiet on potential departures like Kingsley Coman, Min-jae Kim, Sacha Boey, Serge Gnabry, or João Palhinha. But their potential transfer fees and saved salaries could make his legendary shopping sprees a breeze.
Eberl's bagged a couple of freebies, snagging national players Jonathan Tah (from Bayer Leverkusen) and Tom Bischof (midfield, TSG Hoffenheim). Unfortunately, their registration for the World Cup squad remains uncertain due to FIFA's registration deadlines and procedural requirements.
On the flip side, the attack's been hit hard with three departures: Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and the young striker jewel Mathys Tel, who was permanently sold to Tottenham Hotspur after a loan. The transfer of desired player Florian Wirtz and the Spaniard Nico Williams seem to be stalled, too.
Eberl's been keeping his powder dry on the buying front. He's admitted that they need reinforcements upfront and that they aim to add quality to their squad. Joshua Kimmich chimed in, expressing his concerns about the team without Flo, Leroy, and Thomas. For that, Eberl gave him a firmly worded rebuke: "Jo is on the pitch, and I'm doing it off the pitch."
Sacha Boey, who's been flying under the radar as the third right-back, certainly impressed during the 10-0 thrashing of Auckland City. Kingsley Coman even managed to score a brace in his 45-minute stint against a less-than-impressive foe.
Coman, a fan favorite since joining the club in 2015, has a contract that runs for another two years. However, Eberl and coach Vincent Kompany have both spoken up for Coman as a potential sales candidate.
"King delivers the performance; he's an extraordinary player who, in my opinion, played a great season last year, and he stayed healthy, which is the most important thing for him," said Eberl.
Kompany's staying mum on transfer talk during the World Cup, but he did have some kind words for Coman's abilities. "When we talk about his quality, it's important not to forget that he scores crucial goals. I know sometimes people just look at the volume, like 20 season goals, 15 goals. But he's scored crucial goals in the history of the club." His game-winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain remains his most shining moment.
The football fever's running high for Munich, with their buying and selling list seemingly in a perpetual shift.
