What's the Gist of the "Tatort"?

Investigative probe delves into heavy metal concert and agony at Wacken - Intense metal music and considerable suffering.

A chilling discovery of an abandonded baby on a Kiel parking lot leaves its mother missing. Did she met an untimely end and ran away, or is she herself in grave danger? A hint that Commissioner Klaus Borowski (Axel Milberg) and his partner Mila Sahin (Almila Bagriacik) grasp is a Wacken Festival entry wristband. Trailing their initial leads takes them to Michi Berger (Nikolaus Okonkwo), a caterer who transported the young mother to Wacken in his food truck. The village folk, initially startled by the tragedy, prove to be indifferent to Borowski and Sahin's investigation, engrossed in their own affairs. Nonetheless, a vital clue comes from the son of a local undertaker.

The Appeal of "Borowski and the Innocent Child of Wacken"?

This episode impresses where many crime dramas often stumble—delving deep into the characters' emotions and motivations. Screenwriter Agnes Pluch has invested time in crafting rich characters, cultivating an emotional connect with the audience and making their actions comprehensible. It's a tale of shattered dreams, unfulfilled aspirations, and wounded feelings. The outcome is a gripping portrayal of a tight-knit community laden with unforeseen twists.

What Leaves a Sour Note?

Despite the crime occurring in Wacken, the renowned heavy metal festival merely shows up as a peripheral spectacle. Borowski and Sahin attend the venue while festival preparations are underway. Those hoping for a storyline built around the open-air event might feel let down. Notably, there is a brief cameo by co-founder and organizer Thomas Jensen and the band The Halo Effect.

The Detectives?

Commissioner Borowski is supposed to take a well-deserved vacation but finds it hard to unwind. His gas bottle is empty, he can't prepare his coffee, and mosquitoes are relentless. When he receives a call from his superior, Roland Schladitz (Thomas Kugel), it almost seems like a blessing in disguise. Handily, Borowski's camper is located near the crime scene, and he jumps right into supporting his colleague Mila Sahin in the investigation.

To Watch or Not to Watch?

With this episode, actor Axel Milberg celebrated 20 years as Commissioner Klaus Borowski in 2023, marking his retirement from the "Tatort" investigator role. For those yet to catch this crime drama, it's certainly worth a watch.
