Intense Israeli bombardments in Gaza City confirmed
The Israeli army is currently engaged in a military offensive against the ruling Hamas in the Gaza Strip, a conflict that has been ongoing for nearly two years. The offensive, reported to be intense, has seen more than 100 'terror targets' attacked by the Israeli army, including tunnels, explosives, buildings used by Hamas terrorists, and sniper positions.
The intensity of the conflict has resulted in a significant number of casualties. According to reports from the Gaza Strip's health authority, more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war. At least 56 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Saturday, with at least 31 of the deaths occurring in the city of Gaza. Around 80 Palestinians were reported to be seriously injured.
The majority of the victims are likely to be civilians, a claim Israel has been accused of disregarding. The country has been accused of using civilians as human shields, a allegation Israel denies.
The current conflict can be traced back to massacres carried out by Hamas, along with other extremist groups, in Israel on October 7, 2023. These massacres resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the abduction of more than 250.
The new leader of Hamas, Khalid Meshal, who assumed leadership after Yahya Sinwar was reportedly killed by Israel in 2024, is considered part of the top Hamas leadership responsible for orchestrating the conflict.
In an effort to escape the violence, around 480,000 Palestinians have left the sealed-off coastal region, attempting to reach the humanitarian zone of Al-Mawasi in the southwest of the Gaza Strip.
It is important to note that both sides' claims cannot be independently verified at this time. The situation remains fluid and ongoing, and we will continue to monitor developments closely.
