Intense Internal Disputes Threaten People Power Party's Presidential Campaign

Titled: "Standoff in South Korea's Presidential Race: Kim Moon-soo and Han Duck-soo's Unification Talks Hit a Roadblock"

In the midst of South Korea's presidential race, meetings between contenders have stirred up some drama. Han Duck-soo, an independent candidate, recently had a sit-down with Kim Moon-soo, the candidate from the conservative People Power Party (PPP), in a central Seoul restaurant [YONHAP]. However, this meeting, aimed at unifying their candidacies, has hit a significant roadblock.

The PPP initially tried to swap Kim Moon-soo with Han Duck-soo as their presidential candidate, based on internal polls showing stronger support for Han [1][5]. Yet, this move faced resistance from party members, halting the plan.

Post-failed negotiations, the PPP leadership looked into replacing Kim with Han, but party members stood their ground, voicing their opposition once more [4]. On May 10, an emergency committee initiated the process to cancel Kim's nomination and register Han as the new candidate, but this called for an all-party vote for approval [4][5].

However, party members voted against replacing Kim with Han on May 11, resulting in Kim Moon-soo's reinstatement as the PPP's presidential candidate [2][3]. This turn of events has put a pause on the efforts to unify the candidacies of Kim and Han [2][4].

While the battle for South Korea's presidency continues, it's evident that both candidates are determined to be heard and will stop at nothing to secure their place on the ballot.
