Intense Heat Wave in Bavaria: Temperatures May Reach 38 Degrees - Intense Heat Wave Forecasted in Bavaria, Temperatures May Reach as High as 38 Degrees
The Free State of Bavaria is currently experiencing a severe heat wave, with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning for the heat, advising residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe.
Starting on Wednesday, the second highest level of the forest fire danger index applies to the areas in the south, north, and west of Bavaria. The high forest fire risk continues to increase, with the high forest fire risk on Thursday for large parts of the state. The DWD predicts a high risk of forest fires for the Alps and the Bavarian Forest starting on Thursday.
To combat the heat, the DWD advises avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, scheduling work or exercise for cooler morning or evening hours. It is also crucial to stay hydrated by drinking water regularly to prevent heat exhaustion. Remaining in shaded or air-conditioned places whenever possible will help reduce heat exposure.
Residents should also be alert to the risk of thunderstorms with hail and strong gusts that may accompany the heat, especially in Bavaria and the Alps. The DWD advises observing heightened forest fire warnings due to dry conditions and critical fire risk, avoiding any activities that could ignite fires.
As the heat wave peaks on Thursday in the Lower Main region, the DWD expects shower and thunderstorm activity towards the end of the week. Starting from Thursday, the probability of showers and thunderstorms will increase in the Alps and the Bavarian Forest. Despite the anticipated rain, it will remain hot with temperatures up to 37 degrees.
The DWD continues to advise staying in the shade, drinking enough, and protecting apartments from direct sunlight, but has not issued a new warning for the heat. Munich, being part of Bavaria, is also experiencing the heat wave and the high forest fire danger. Up to 30 degrees are expected in the Alpine foothills.
It is essential to follow public health advice such as adopting siesta habits (resting in the midday heat) and managing sleep conditions at night, as tropical nights can reduce rest quality. Never leaving people or pets inside parked vehicles, as temperatures inside can quickly become dangerously high, is also crucial.
Prepare for possible storms with lightning, which increase wildfire risk and may cause localized flooding or mudslides. These measures are recommended due to the combined threats of extreme heat, storm hazards, and ongoing wildfire risk in the region.
Stay safe and follow the DWD's advice to ensure a comfortable and secure experience during the heat wave.

- The Commission, acknowledging the current severe heat wave in Bavaria, may consider incorporating the findings of environmental-science, specifically regarding extreme weather effects on worker safety, in their discussion of the draft directive on the protection of workers from carcinogen exposure risks.
- To further mitigate the risks associated with the heat wave and the high forest fire danger, the Bavarian Forest Fire Service and the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection could collaborate with scientists in the field of science to develop preventative measures against forest fires, taking into account the latest weather predictions and conditions.
