Intense Clashes in Israel-Palestine: Death Toll Rises in Gaza as Airstrikes Target Shelter and Other Locations; At Least 39 Die and 105 Are Injured According to Gaza Health Ministry Reports
Lashing Out in Gaza:
Israeli attacks have relentlessly pummeled the embattled Gaza Strip, causing the deaths of numerous Palestinians, including several at a school-turned-shelter, according to local reports.
On Wednesday, at least 40 Palestinians died in Israeli attacks. Three were killed in an assault on Deir el-Balah, and eight others met their end when their home was attacked in Gaza City's Shujayea neighborhood.
Gaza's civil defense confirmed that four more bodies were discovered in nearby homes. More Palestinians succumbed to their burn wounds after an Israeli strike hit their shelter in Gaza City overnight, with at least 13 lives lost, and six still believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Rescue teams have yet to reach these individuals due to both their inability to access the area and the lack of necessary heavy equipment to remove the rubble.
A staggering 105 Palestinians have suffered injuries across the territory in the last 24 hours, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
Calls for Action
In the wake of these tragedies, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called upon Hamas to release the remaining Israeli captives in Gaza.
Hamas, the governing power in Gaza and a rival to Abbas's PA, has vowed to release all captives in exchange for a full Israeli withdrawal and a permanent end to the conflict, but has rejected Israel's demand for disarmament, deeming it a non-negotiable "red line."
Negotiating Peace
Despite a month-long impasse in ceasefire negotiations following Israel's resumption of attacks on March 18, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani emphasized that Doha is still actively working to bring an end to the conflict.
A Hamas delegation visited Cairo on Tuesday to discuss a new truce proposal.
Meanwhile, Israel persists in blocking aid, including food and medicine, from entering Gaza for the eighth consecutive week. In response, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom spoke out forcefully against Israel's blockade, calling it "intolerable."
"Humanitarian aid must never be used as a political tool, and Palestinian territory must not be reduced or subjected to any demographic change," a joint European statement read.
Since Israel's assault resumed, ending a fragile two-month ceasefire earlier in the year, a total of at least 1,928 Palestinians have perished, surpassing 51,300 deaths, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
