Intense Battles at Ermidas-Sado, Three Active Firefight Locations
Fire in Ermidas-Sado, Portugal, Moving Towards Resolution
The wildfire that broke out in Ermidas-Sado, a municipality in the district of Setúbal, Portugal, is currently in the resolution phase. Firefighters have been working tirelessly to contain the blaze, with over 300 operatives involved in the efforts as of mid-August 2025.
The fire started in Vale da Eira, Ermidas-Sado, and quickly spread to nearby areas. Another front of the fire is heading towards the municipality of Grândola, while another is moving towards the West, towards Vale da Eira in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém. Fortunately, there are no current reports of people or houses in danger in either Ermidas-Sado or Santiago do Cacém.
Commander Tiago Bugio reported that the fire is burning in an area of eucalyptus, pine, and brush. The fire department has mobilized significant resources to combat the blaze, including 114 vehicles and seven aerial means. However, due to the fall of the night, the aerial means have already left the scene of operations.
Before the fire started, there were reports of thunderclaps in the area, and the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) had predicted a dry thunderstorm. Reinforcements from other fire departments in the central region, Lisbon, and Almada have been called to assist in the efforts.
Despite the increasing number of operatives, the fire is not considered a danger for further spreading at this time. The situation in Ermidas-Sado is stable, with firefighting efforts transitioning towards final extinguishing rather than active control or containment.
