Unprecedented Attacks Rock Ukraine: Kyiv and Odesa Under Siege

Intense Air Assaults on Kiev and Odessa Reported by Ukraine

June 10, 2025, Russia launched a relentless barrage of drones and missiles on Ukraine, marking the fiercest offensive since the country's war began. The attacks wounded numerous individuals and caused destruction in both Kyiv and Odesa.

Overnight, Russia waged an unremitting drone assault on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. Timur Tkachenko, the city's military administrator, reported the unexpected cruise around the city on the Telegram app, saying the enemy drones were causing damages to residential areas and starting fires[1][2]. Emergency services were activated in four Kyiv districts, with Mayor Vitali Klitschko reporting the chaos on Telegram[2].

A cacophony of anti-aircraft gunfire echoed through the capital as reports of ballistic missiles surfaced[2]. The RBK-Ukraine news agency reported explosions all over the city. In six of the city's ten districts, the military administration documented damage[2]. authorities confirmed one fatality and four injuries. The "Kyiv Independent" online news outlet also reported injuries, burning cars, and structures ablaze.

Simultaneously, the southern port city of Odesa experienced its own brutal drone attack, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to ten more[1][2]. Regional Governor Oleh Kiper revealed that a maternity hospital and residential buildings were among the targets[2]. Thankfully, the maternity ward himself experienced no injuries, while patients and personnel were tactfully evacuated.

In a desperate plea for civilians to find cover, Klitschko warned of another "massive attack on the capital," urging dwellers to remain in shelters. The carnage unfolding in Odesa saw a 59-year-old man fall as a victim, Kiper stated[1][2].

Ukrainian authorities disclosed that Russian forces employed 322 "air attack vehicles," including 315 drones and seven missiles, to indiscriminately strike Ukraine[3]. According to the Ukrainian military, most of these projectiles, including missiles and cruise missiles, were shot down, and 64 drones are presumed to be destroyed by electronic air defense[3].

With humanitarian and security crises escalating, the attacks underscore the urgent need for international intervention to cease the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The Commission, in light of the unprecedented attacks on Ukraine, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation associated with war-and-conflicts, politics, general-news, and the use of drones.
