Intense Air Assault Recorded in Kiev and Odessa, According to Ukraine's Statements

In an alarming turn of events, Russia launched a devastating aerial assault on Ukraine in the early hours of Monday. This attack, one of the larges since the war commenced, has claimed at least three lives and injured several others, as per Kyiv reports.

Kyiv bore the brunt of the attack as drones rained down simultaneously on multiple districts. Timur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv military administration, confirmed the attack via Telegram, reporting damages to residential buildings and fires. Emergency services were canned to four districts, including the historic Podil neighborhood, around midnight, as reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Heavy anti-aircraft fire echoed through the capital overnight, a reporter noted. The Ukrainian air force reported the use of ballistic missiles among other weapons. The RBK-Ukraine news agency reported explosions in the city, and damages in six of the city's ten districts were confirmed by the city administration. One woman was pronounced dead, and four others were injured, according to the city administration.

The online portal, "Kyiv Independent," also reported injuries, burning cars, and building fires, citing government sources. The military urged the population to seek shelter, and Klitschko reported a "massive attack on the capital," urging Kyiv residents to stay in shelters.

Simultaneously, the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa experienced a "massive" drone attack that left at least two people dead and ten injured, according to Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov. The attack also struck a maternity ward, medical emergency room, and residential buildings in the UNESCO World Heritage city, but fortunately, there were no injuries at the maternity ward, and patients and staff were successfully evacuated.

The renewed attacks transpired a week after the ceasefire talks in Istanbul. Despite ongoing attempts, a ceasefire has yet to be achieved, marking three years and counting of invasion by Russia.
