The Attacks
Russia unleashed a series of drone and missile attacks on Ukraine's cities early Monday, according to reports. Timur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, confirmed the assault on Kyiv via Telegram, stating that residential buildings were damaged and fires had erupted. Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported 4 districts were attacked around midnight. The city's historic Podil district was amongst those affected.
In addition, a significant drone attack occurred in the southern port city of Odesa, claiming two lives and injuring ten others. The city's mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov, reported that residential buildings and a maternity ward were struck. However, no injuries were reported at the maternity ward.
Deaths and Injuries
At least eight lives have been lost, with numerous casualties reported. Kyiv accounted for one death and four injuries. Odesa saw the death of two people, while nine others were injured. Furthermore, five deaths and 19 injuries were reported in front-line regions.
Damage report
The focus of the attacks was on civilian infrastructure, with residential areas in Kyiv sustaining the brunt of the damage. In Odesa, a maternity hospital was hit, and an emergency medical center was struck.
Ukraine's Military Response
Ukraine's air force neutralized 277 drones and all seven missiles launched by Russia.
International Reactions
Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, called for strong international actions against Russian aggression. He emphasized the need for concrete action from the U.S. and Europe to bring pressure upon Russia for peace.
