Iranian Mullah agents' infiltration warned by SPD: potential threat identified - Intelligence agency SPD issues alert on potential infiltration of Mullah representatives from Iran

With the Israeli military strikes prompting a mass exodus of Iranians seeking safety, Germany is bracing for an increase in Iranian refugees in the coming weeks. But the Social Democratic Party (SPD) isn't taking these arrivals lightly.

Sebastian Fiedler, the SPD’s interior policy spokesman, cautions about the possibility of the Mullah regime in Tehran exploiting these refugees for their own gain. In a conversation with Stern, Fiedler expresses concern that the Revolutionary Guards could exploit the desperate situation of refugees to infiltrate Germany with their own agents.

Fiedler also slammed the Greens' push for a ban on deportations for Iranian refugees in Germany. Last year, only 14 individuals were deported from Germany to Iran, with five deportations occurring in the first quarter of this year. Fiedler stresses that each case is carefully assessed to determine if those being sent back will face serious dangers such as death or torture in their native country.

Greens' Demand for an Immigration Ban Denied

Filiz Polat, the parliamentary managing director of the Green party, advocated for an immediate nationwide ban on the deportation of Iranian refugees. "Individuals who have fled to Germany should be protected from death or persecution and should not be deported to a dictatorship and war zone," Polat said to taz.

The Argument for Caution:

Historically, foreign intelligence services have leveraged refugee and immigrant communities in Germany to engage in spying and influence operations. Turkish intelligence, for instance, is suspected of using information from German immigration authorities and Turkish diaspora organizations to monitor, intimidate, or influence opponents within the country[1]. By pattern recognition, the SPD likely fears the Iranian regime could employ similar tactics to embed informants or agents among asylum seekers, infiltrating and influencing German society and politics. This concern is consistent with broader observed practices of "transnational repression" seen among authoritarian states using diaspora communities abroad as leverage.

  1. The SPD's interior policy spokesman, Sebastian Fiedler, has expressed concern about the Mullah regime in Tehran potentially exploiting the influx of Iranian refugees in Germany to infiltrate the country with their own agents.
  2. Fiedler's alarm comes as a response to the possible use of espionage and influence operations, a practice historically observed among foreign intelligence services in Germany, including suspected activities by Turkish intelligence.
