In Kuala Lumpur, an investigation is underway into a series of cyber threats targeting Members of Parliament (MPs) and assemblymen. The investigation is being led by Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

Ten reports of such threats have been received, according to Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail. One of the affected MPs, Subang's Wong Chen, also received a similar threat via email.

The threats have been widespread, with leaders from various political parties and groups receiving email threats. These include members from the CDU/CSU (Union), SPD, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (Greens), AfD (Alternative for Germany), and Die Linke (The Left).

Among the affected leaders are Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Subang MP Wong Chen, Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim, Selangor state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi, Senator Manolan Mohamad, Kulim state assemblyman Wong Chia Zen, Selangor state executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation culture Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, and opposition MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan (Tasek Gelugor).

The investigation was discussed at a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur. Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that only four of these reports have been formally lodged with the police.

One notable case involves former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who claimed he received a threat involving a fake video, allegedly manipulated with artificial intelligence. The sender of the fake video demanded US$100,000 (RM420,000) from Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli to prevent its spread.

While the motive behind these cyber threats is still under investigation, it's important to note that some parties may attempt to take advantage of such situations for financial gain and other purposes. Any developments in the investigation will be conveyed to relevant parties.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police urge any affected parties to come forward and formally report the threats to ensure a thorough investigation.
