Inspiring strides in Kazakhstan: the motivation behind Alexander Bespalov's runs

A Daily Rundown: The Story of Alexander Bespalov

Dawn creeps over the peaceful village of Zerenka. But for Alexander Bespalov, it's not time for slumber – it's time to get moving. His alarm goes off at 5:30, kicking off a day that's all about pushing his limits. First up? A steaming mug of tea, a quick warm-up, and a brisk 10-12k run. He's not running for records, but for himself. For that resilient boy from the orphanage who once faced adversity alone. For the strong man he has become.

Alexander, now 42, has spent the past 16 years as a 7th grade cable joiner in JSC "Kazakhstan". His past is a complex tapestry. After growing up in an orphanage, he initially started his career as a chef in Zerenka. Yet, destiny had other plans. A chance interview with a telecommunications company redefined his path. The concise query?

  • Do you do sports?
  • Yes. Volleyball, football, running.
  • Welcome aboard.

Running became his fifth element. He's one of those individuals who can't imagine a day without exercise. His personal best is the "Self-Transcendence" race where he covered an impressive 75k in 6 hours, taking first place. His trophy collection boasts over 200 medals, a testament to his tenacity, not just on the 42k marathons, but also the grueling 30k races.

"I can't run slowly," Alexander chuckles. "My students can't keep up with me."

Today, he has created his own training program, with friends and coaches helping him craft personalized plans.

On May 3, Alexander will join the starting line of the III Charity Samruk Marathon in Nur-Sultan.

"Sport isn't just about building the body, it's about strengthening the mind. Each marathon has a unique goal, and it's rewarding to use the Charity Samruk Marathon as a means to support our children," shares the runner.

Last year's Charity Samruk Marathon witnessed a commendable fundraising effort of 127 million tenge. The money was used to establish five inclusive support rooms in Nur-Sultan schools.
