Israel launches a series of devastating attacks on key Iranian interests, targeting critical infrastructure and nuclear facilities. How does this tit-for-tat unfold, and where does it leave us?
What's Happening Now?
The Attacks: Commencing under the cover of darkness, Israel's armed forces conducted widespread attacks against Iranian targets. Among the sites targeted were:
- The Natanz nuclear facility
- The heavy water reactor in Arak
- The Parschin nuclear complex
- Military headquarters
- Other military installations
In total, approximately 200 combat jets struck around 100 sites, with images suggesting the involvement of F-15, F-16, and F-35 aircraft.
As the day progressed, additional waves of attacks were reported, extending to cities like Tabriz and Shiraz, as well as renewed strikes on the Natanz nuclear facility.
High-Profile Casualties
- The commander of the powerful Revolutionary Guards, Major General Hussein Salami, was allegedly killed in an attack on the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards’ supreme command.
- General Staff Chief Mohammed Bagheri and Gholam-Ali Rashid, the commander of the central headquarters of the Supreme Leader’s Armed Forces, were also reportedly among the casualties.
- Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ air force, was likewise killed, along with leading officers in an attack.
- Six leading scientists specializing in nuclear physics and simulations were also reportedly targeted and killed.
Disputed Damage and Retaliation Threats
Despite conflicting reports on the extent of damage inflicted, Israel claimed "significant damage" to the Iranian nuclear program by targeting essential installations. The sites of the heavy water reactor in Arak and the Parschin nuclear complex were also reported to have sustained damage, though Iran denied the existence of any significant impairment.
In response, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a threat of retaliation against Israel, promising Israelis a "hard punishment" for their actions. Israel, on the other hand, allegedly intercepted over 100 drones sent towards its territory.

- Expanded Israeli Strikes on Iran (June 14, 2025): Israel expanded its offensive by targeting critical Iranian energy infrastructure, specifically the gas refineries in Bushehr Province, including a facility linked to the South Pars gas field. This site is central to Iran’s domestic energy supply, and the attack forced a shutdown of Phase 14. The Israeli aim is to degrade Iran’s capacity to sustain its military and nuclear programs, while avoiding global oil price spikes.
- Iranian Missile Barrages on Israel: Iran has launched seven waves of ballistic missile attacks from its territory at Israel since June 12, including dozens of missiles on June 14. These attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage across Israel.
- Targeting of Iranian Nuclear and Security Personnel: Iranian nuclear scientists and high-ranking military leaders have been targets of the ongoing attacks between Israel and Iran. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported there's been no detectable damage at key nuclear sites such as Fordow, Khondab, and Natanz, despite Israeli claims of damage at these installations.
- Regional Involvement: The conflict has involved attacks from Yemen, with missile and drone attacks from Iranian proxies. The U.S. military has actively intercepted missiles and drones launched by Iran toward Israel.
