In the picturesque town of Korzert, the AWG grounds played host to the thrilling conclusion of the "Bergischer Hammer" and "Hämmerchen" triathlon races. The event, organised by the Tri-Club Wuppertal, attracted a total of 370 participants, with the quota filling up two weeks prior to the competition.

The triathlon, a test of endurance and athleticism, consisted of swimming, cycling, and running segments. The "Bergischer Hammer" challenged competitors with a gruelling 750-meter swim, 42-kilometer bike ride, and a 10-kilometer run. On the other hand, the "Hämmerchen" offered a slightly shorter course, with a 500-meter swim, 14-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run.

The event commenced with the first starting shot at 10 am, with the participants diving into the refreshing waters of the SV Neuenhof outdoor pool for the swimming segment. The cycling route took competitors through the scenic Burgholz, testing their speed and stamina on the undulating terrain. The final leg, the running segment, pushed participants to their limits as they raced towards the finish line on the AWG grounds.

The "Bergischer Hammer" and "Hämmerchen" races saw some impressive performances. In the women's long distance race, Sandra Herbst clinched the victory, demonstrating her dominance in the sport. The LG Wuppertal team also triumphed in the overall team classification, showcasing the city's strong triathlon community. Marc Walter secured a commendable second place in the men's long distance race.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the support of the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal, the AWG, the city of Wuppertal, and the SV Neuenhof. Their partnership ensured a well-organised and safe competition for all participants.

As the dust settles on the AWG grounds, the triathletes can look back on a challenging but rewarding event. The "Bergischer Hammer" and "Hämmerchen" races in Wuppertal have once again proven to be a significant fixture on the triathlon calendar, attracting athletes from across the region and showcasing the city's vibrant sports scene.
