INS Sahyadri's Malaysia Port Call Boosts India-Malaysia Maritime Cooperation
INS Sahyadri, an Indian Navy stealth frigate, made a significant port call at Kemaman port in Malaysia on October 2, 2025. The visit, led by Commander Ravi Kumar, aimed to bolster India-Malaysia maritime military cooperation and showcase the Indian Navy's growing global rescue capabilities.
This was the third visit by INS Sahyadri to Malaysia, following previous calls in 2016 and 2019. During the stay, the ship's commanding officer made courtesy calls on senior Royal Malaysian Navy officers, including First Admiral Abd Halim bin Kamarudin, Deputy Commander Naval Region. The port call was part of INS Sahyadri's ongoing operational deployment to the South China Sea and Indo-Pacific.
The visit was more than just a stopover. It included professional exchanges and cross-training between the two navies, fostering interoperability and best practice sharing. Crew members also engaged in sport fixtures and recreational activities, fostering camaraderie. Notably, the Indian Navy crew conducted a yoga session and a charity event, reflecting their commitment to cultural exchange and community service.
The port call by INS Sahyadri in Malaysia underscored the growing strategic partnership between India and Malaysia in the Indo-Pacific region. It demonstrated the Indian Navy's capability to work with international maritime forces and its commitment to regional cooperation. As INS Sahyadri continues its deployment, such visits will further strengthen ties and enhance mutual understanding.
