Inquiry to Initiate After Prioritized Rescue Efforts in El Teniente Mine Conclude, Assures Boric

In a tragic turn of events, the rescue operations for the miners trapped in Chile's El Teniente copper mine following the earthquake have concluded with the recovery of all five trapped miners, who were found deceased. The partial collapse caused by a 4.2 magnitude tremor initially resulted in one death and nine injuries.

The incident occurred last Thursday, with rescue efforts beginning immediately. The first trapped miner was located on Saturday, and the remaining four were found the next day. The cause of the tremor that triggered the collapse is still unclear, whether it was a natural seismic event or related to mining activities. Codelco, the state-owned company managing the mine, has announced that it will bring in international experts to investigate the incident thoroughly.

Located in the Andes Mountains, El Teniente is the world's largest copper mine, known for its strong safety record. Despite this, the tragedy has deeply affected the company and the local region. The mining sector in Chile has a low fatality rate of 0.02%, as reported previously.

President Gabriel Boric of Chile has expressed his condolences and emphasised the importance of the rescue operation. He has urged everyone to focus all energies on the rescue, stating that now is not the time to assign blame. Boric has also established a single line of communication for updates on the miners' rescue.

The President has spoken with the families about the mine's security situation before the collapse and has promised a full investigation into the security systems of the El Teniente copper mine. He has also indicated that everyone involved should be aligned with the same goal - the rescue of the trapped miners.

The families of the trapped miners will be the first to receive updates on any events. One miner, identified as Paulo Marín Tapia, died as a result of the collapse, and nine others were injured. Boric's priority remains the rescue of the trapped miners.

It's important to note that this incident is unrelated to the ongoing reform proposal for indefinite presidential re-election in El Salvador. Additionally, a minimum 10% tariff announced by Trump does not apply to Honduras.

As the rescue operations conclude, our thoughts remain with the families and loved ones of the miners who lost their lives in this tragic event. We hope that the investigation will provide answers and ensure the safety of all those working in the mining industry.
