Inquiry by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over Operation Sindoor, expressed through her questioning regarding Pahalgam and Pulwama to the Modi administration.
Fiery Exchange over 'Operation Sindoor': Banerjee Questions Modi Govt, BJP Accuses TMC of Supporting Terrorism
West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has escalated her criticism of the Narendra Modi administration, confronting them on their handling of security matters, particularly concerning the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and the subsequent 'Operation Sindoor'.
On Tuesday, during a discussion on 'Operation Sindoor' in the West Bengal Assembly, Banerjee raised some hard-hitting questions aimed at challenging the lack of security arrangements at Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam. She accused the central government of being a failure in addressing national security concerns, asserting, "For the country's security, there is a need to tighten BSF and other agencies. I said the Central government should be more powerful, but they were a total failure."
The CM continued her line of attack, questioning the circumstances surrounding the infamous Pulwama terrorist attack. However, she clarified that the TMC or Bengal government does not support terrorism in any way. "Bengal is the only state which moved a resolution on this. We are the first who are expressing appreciation for the Indian Armed Forces in combating militant and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir," she said.
The BJP, however, did not take kindly to Banerjee's remarks, accusing the ruling party in Bengal of supporting terrorists and extremists. Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari stated emphatically, "TMC party extends full support to terrorism and extremists... People of Mamata Banerjee's party are turning Bengal into a valley of extremists and are protecting them...".
Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 6-7, was a precision strike against terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and PoK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) after the gruesome terror attack in Pahalgam that led to the deaths of 26 civilians. The operation instigated a four-day-long military conflict between India and Pakistan.
With assembly elections set to take place in West Bengal early next year, the BJP and TMC are expected to face off in a direct contest. The political landscape is heating up, with both parties engaging incharged exchanges over national security and governance issues.
Politics and general news have been heated in West Bengal, as the BJP and TMC parties have been at odds following Mamata Banerjee's criticism of the Modi government's handling of war-and-conflicts, such as the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The BJP, in response, has accused the TMC of supporting terrorism, while Banerjee has clarified that her party does not support terrorism and instead appreciates the Indian Armed Forces for their efforts against militant activities. This verbal war between the two parties is expected to continue as the assembly elections in West Bengal approach. Crime-and-justice also seem to be a focus of their polemics, with accusations flying back and forth about the support of extremists and terrorists.
