The GAC Aion UT, a compact all-electric hatchback with a sleek fastback design, is set to make its mark in left-hand drive markets outside China, such as Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Designed by the Milan Design Center, the Aion UT boasts customization options, including six body colors inspired by gemstones and three interior styles. Measuring 4,270 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,575 mm tall, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, the Aion UT offers a spacious cabin suitable for urban use.

Powered by a 100 kW (134 hp) front electric motor, the Aion UT delivers a top speed of 150 km/h. It supports fast charging that can ramp the battery from 30% to 80% in about 24 minutes, offering two CLTC ranges of 330 km or 420 km depending on the battery pack. The 34.868 kWh battery uses liquid cooling for efficiency.

Inside, the Aion UT features modern digital displays, including a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Rounded air-conditioning vents and smartphone app connectivity that enables remote monitoring and control of key vehicle functions are also included. Safety is comprehensive, with an intelligent driving safety system that includes AEB emergency braking, FCW forward collision warning, LDP lane departure warning, ELK emergency lane keeping, BSD blind spot detection, and DOW door opening warning.

Pricing in Mainland China ranges from approximately $9,740 to $14,200 USD, making it a competitively priced compact EV option for urban and regional markets. The Aion UT is targeted initially at right-hand-drive Southeast Asian markets, with overseas production facilities supporting global rollout, while adapting to local traffic regulations in places like Hong Kong.

The Aion UT's moose test result of 75 km/h indicates predictable and controllable handling under sudden direction changes. Its regenerative braking system operates subtly but lacks adjustable regen levels. The vehicle targets budget EV buyers with a focus on efficiency, digital cockpit features, and fast charging capabilities. It comes with either 16- or 17-inch rims, depending on the trim.

The Aion UT's driving dynamics are well-suited to city life, with easy manoeuvrability, low operating costs, and user-friendly power delivery. Energy efficiency is a strong point, with a WLTC-rated consumption of 11.4 kWh per 100 km. The suspension maintains composure at higher speeds, such as on elevated roads or urban expressways.

Braking in the Aion UT is progressive and confidence-inspiring, though the pedal feel could benefit from a firmer initial bite. Steering feedback in the Aion UT is limited, but the vehicle tracks reliably and requires minor correction at speed. Motor whine and road noise in the Aion UT are well-muted in urban driving but become more prominent at sustained highway speeds.

The Aion UT's cabin insulation is adequate for its price point. It was launched in Thailand in June 2025 and pre-sales commenced at the 2025 GIIAS auto show in Indonesia. Fast charging performance is competitive for the Aion UT, with a 30% to 80% top-up completed in 24 minutes under optimal conditions. The Aion UT's driving dynamics, efficiency, and technology make it an attractive urban electric vehicle for left-hand drive export markets outside China.

The Aion UT, with its sleek design and compact size, is not just a vehicle for commuting in urban areas, but also a perfect fit for enthusiasts who wish to incorporate sports into their daily lives. With its agile handling, regenerative braking system, and smooth power delivery, the Aion UT offers an exciting driving experience, making it an ideal choice for those who want a bit of excitement alongside their sports.
