Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition brings a speedrunning twist to classic NES games on the Nintendo Switch
Get ready to test your gaming skills with the latest release from Nintendo, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. This speedrunning-focused game offers over 150 bite-sized challenges across 13 iconic NES games, such as Super Mario Bros.TM 3, The Legend of ZeldaTM, and MetroidTM.
The core gameplay involves racing through these challenges as fast as possible. Your completion time determines the winner, making it a thrilling competition for all players. Unlike traditional speedruns, this game has simpler mechanics. Taking damage does not disqualify or heavily penalize you, allowing for a more accessible experience.
In Party Mode, you can gather a crew of up to eight players for local multiplayer fun. You can also take on individual challenges or themed challenge packs in this mode. For those who prefer a more global challenge, the World Championships Mode offers weekly rotating challenges, allowing players to compare their times against other players worldwide.
In Survival Mode, half of the players are eliminated after each round, making it a race against the ghost data of seven other players. Newer players can use the automatic rewind feature to undo mistakes, providing a helping hand when needed.
Each challenge comes with a screen reminding you of the objective, showing your Personal Best, and giving information on the game the challenge is from. A demonstration video is provided before each challenge, showing how to complete the objective.
With World Championships Mode, players can strive for A-rank special rewards by beating the times the game sets as targets for each challenge. Classified Information can also provide tips and tricks for the LEGEND challenges.
If you're up for the challenge, pre-order the game on Nintendo.com or the Nintendo eShop on your device. The event will take place on July 18. Whether you're a seasoned speedrunner or a newcomer to the world of speedrunning, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition promises a fun and exciting gaming experience.
