Minnesota Vikings' Justin Jefferson Dealing with Hamstring Strain

Minnesota Vikings' star wide receiver Justin Jefferson is currently sidelined with a mild hamstring strain in his left leg, an injury he sustained in late July 2025. This is not the first time Jefferson has dealt with a hamstring issue, as he missed seven games during the 2023-24 season due to a similar injury.

Jefferson has not participated in any training camp sessions since his injury. Initially, he was scheduled for a reassessment one week after the injury, but the timeline has since extended due to the lingering nature of the injury. By mid-August, it was reported that Jefferson would begin practicing again, gradually ramping up his activities to ensure he is ready for the season opener.

The Vikings are taking a cautious approach with Jefferson's recovery, as they want to ensure he is fully healthy before putting him back on the field. This absence leaves a gaping hole in the Vikings' wide receiver room, a void that other players like Jalen Nailor, Lucky Jackson, rookie Tai Felton, and tight end TJ Hockenson may need to fill if Jefferson is not available for the regular season.

Meanwhile, another wide receiver for the Vikings, Jordan Addison, is suspended for the first three games of the regular season. Addison is participating in training camp and preseason contests despite his suspension.

If both Jefferson and Addison are unavailable for the start of the 2025-26 season, the Vikings may need to rely heavily on their remaining receivers. The team is scheduled to play the New England Patriots on Saturday, August 16, in their second preseason game.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell has stated that Jefferson will be "reassessed" between August 18 and August 22. However, the exact date for Jefferson's return to practice has not been determined, as it depends on the results of the reassessment.

Hamstring injuries can be a recurring issue throughout a season, and players often need to take extra precautions to prevent re-aggravation. The Vikings will undoubtedly be hoping for a speedy recovery for Jefferson, as his presence on the field is crucial to their offensive strategy.
