Injury setbacks demand adaptability for PSG squad
PSG Battles Injury Woes Ahead of Olympique de Marseille Match
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is facing a challenging period as they prepare for their upcoming match against Olympique de Marseille, with a series of injuries depleting their squad.
The club has been heavily reliant on stalwarts such as Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, and Bradley Barcola, due to the unavailability of Joao Neves, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Lucas Beraldo. Joao Neves, a midfielder, was injured during PSG's Champions League match against Atalanta, affecting his thigh.
Luis Enrique, the team's manager, has acknowledged the unpredictable nature of injuries in football. He revealed that Joao Neves will undergo tests either on Thursday or Friday to determine the extent of his injury. As for Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue, Luis Enrique has stated that the team will not take any risks with their recovery for the Marseille match.
The injury-induced depletion has left PSG with just 19 available players. In an effort to manage the workloads, the club has been granting rest days and adjusting training sessions. However, this does not guarantee that players will stay off the treatment table.
In the absence of several key players, Luis Enrique started 19-year-old Senny Mayulu up front against Atalanta. Fullback Nuno Mendes acknowledged the squad is being tested but is confident they have the depth to handle the situation. Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier expressed similar sentiments, expressing confidence that the team can remain competitive despite the injuries.
PSG played a gruelling 65 games last season, including a demanding Club World Cup. The sheer volume of games is taking its toll, adding to the team's current injury woes. Despite this, the club boasts a strong and solid team that can replace players who are missing due to injuries.
As for a direct replacement for Joao Neves, no official announcement has been made. However, midfield players such as Enzo Fernández, who plays as a midfielder for Chelsea and recently transferred from Benfica, could be potential alternatives based on typical squad structures.
As the team gears up for the match against Olympique de Marseille, the focus remains on recovery and maintaining team spirit in the face of adversity.
