Injury forces Frimpong to sit out until international break, affecting hamstring muscle
Liverpool FC's Backline Shuffle: Injuries and Potential Changes Ahead
Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot faces a tough decision regarding his backline ahead of the game against Newcastle, as injuries and recoveries have shaken up the usual lineup.
Wataru Endo, who briefly played at full-back against Bournemouth, could find himself in the starting lineup against Newcastle. Endo, under contract with Liverpool, is one of the players who can fill the right-back position, according to Slot. His teammate, Dominik Szoboszlai, is another option for the position.
However, the absence of Jeremie Frimpong is a significant blow for the Reds. Frimpong, who had only been out once or twice last season due to injury, will be sidelined until the international break due to a hamstring injury. He was taken off in the 60th minute of the Premier League opener against Bournemouth due to advice from the medical team, and Slot confirmed that the decision was due to concerns about his hamstring, not his performance.
Frimpong's injury record at Bayer Leverkusen was impressive, missing just four Bundesliga games across the previous three seasons. His expected return after the international break will provide a much-needed boost to the Reds' defence.
Conor Bradley, who trained with the team for the first time on Friday, is another option for the right-back position. However, his recent recovery has limited his training, as he could not train three days in a row with the team completely. Joe Gomez, who has already played 20 minutes, is another player who has recently returned from injury. His current condition is not considered a setback in his recovery process.
Slot has an issue with the right-back position at the moment, with Bradley and Gomez both recently returning from their respective injuries. The medical team advised Slot to take Frimpong off during the Premier League opener against Bournemmouth, adding to the manager's concerns.
It seems that the Reds' backline against Newcastle will see some changes, with Endo, Szoboszlai, Bradley, and Gomez all vying for the right-back position. Frimpong's return after the international break will provide a welcome addition to the defence.
