Injuries Cause Upsets: Shapovalov, Auger-Aliassime Retire in Basel ATP 500 Quarter-finals

The quarter-finals of the Basel ATP 500 event saw two upsets due to injuries. Denis Shapovalov and Félix Auger-Aliassime both retired from their matches, opening the door for João Fonseca and Jaume Munar to advance to the semi-finals.

In the first match, Denis Shapovalov was forced to retire due to a knee injury while trailing João Fonseca 6–3, 6–3, 1–4. This retirement propelled Fonseca into the semi-finals.

In the second match, Félix Auger-Aliassime also retired, this time against Jaume Munar. Auger-Aliassime announced his withdrawal due to a left knee injury. Munar, who won the first set 6-3, will now face Fonseca in the semi-finals.

João Fonseca and Jaume Munar will contest the semi-finals after their opponents' retirements. Fonseca defeated Shapovalov, while Munar overcame Auger-Aliassime. The injuries to Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime have changed the course of the tournament, setting up an unexpected semi-final match.
